All geared up and ready for the 2014 Fly-fishing Clinics

Post  Backlash on Sun Dec 08, 2013 10:06 am

17 volunteers of the Pechmann Fishing Center's Fly-fishing Clinics gathered, yesterday, to prepare to the 2014 Fly-fishing. The team rehearsed each component of the fly-fishing program, reviewed lesson plans, and covered fly-casting teaching techniques commonly used at World Class Fly-fishing schools such as, the Wulff School of Fly-fishing. Linda Michael, a Federation of Fly Fishers certified casting instructor led the group through teaching techniques that included pantomiming and peer coaching that are designed to help instructors better communicate fly-casting information and to facilitate learning while creating a fun, energetic learning environment.

The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will stock more than 1,000 brook, brown and rainbow trout in two ponds at the John E. Pechmann Fishing Education Center in Fayetteville, NC for the several upcoming fly-fishing clinics scheduled for:

  • January 4th
  • January 18th
  • February 1st
  • February 15th

The clinics are sponsored by the North Carolina Wildlife Commission and begin at 8:30 a.m. with instruction on essential fly-fishing knots followed by an overview on the sport of fly-fishing, interactive classes and on-the-water instruction. Clinics will end at 3:00 p.m.

The fly-fishing clinics are open to first-time participants or anyone looking to improve upon their fly-fishing and will focus on the fundamentals of the basic overhead cast, knots and equipment.

In addition to stocking the ponds with trout, Commission personnel will provide loaner rods, reels and tackle to all registered participants.

Clinics are limited to the first 40 people, and preregistration is required. Last year, clinics filled up quickly and Kris Smith, center director, expects the same positive response this year.

Interested participants may contact Tom Carpenter at 910-868-5003 x15 to register. There is a registration fee of $5 payable on the day of the event.
